With sub-zero temperatures and hard winter weather temperatures and wind chills arriving in northern Minnesota, it is important to remember the basics of cold weather safety.

Here are some tips to stay safe and warm:
  • Always travel with warm winter gear in your vehicle in case you have car trouble.
  • Limit pets' time outdoors.
  • Dress warmly in layers.
  • Be careful of space heaters - give them space (at least three feet from other objects)!
  • Drink plenty of liquids.
  • Check on elderly neighbors.
  • Never left infants sleep in a cold room.
  • Never use the oven or stove to heat your home!
  • Have a working carbon monoxide alarm as well as fire alarms.
  • Know the warning signs of hypothermia and be on the look out for them!
